January 07 book
This month Victoria came up with the goods, and much liked goods they were too - with at least one vote for each of her choices...
The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
Restless by William Boyd
Little Face by Sophie Hannah
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind
And the winner is...
Little Face by Sophie Hannah
Happy reading in the sleet, snow, rain and wind. Or find a nice coffee shop.
Oh we kinda liked Attraction - one person didn't really, and the rest of us pretty much enjoyed it. I actually don't have time to say more than that...sorry!

To add to Ellie's post, I think on the whole we thought it was a promising first novel. The science was itegrated well and was readable to a bunch of non-scientists. The scenes involving his mother and the argument with Anne-Marie over the wine were where the novel really came alive for us. At the end I found myself sympathizing with Anne-Marie and her father which I didn't expect. My favourite bit was the description of his boyhood when he worked on the flower stall with his grandma and his mum cooked him an omelete which he ate on a fold out table.
Interestingly our next book is also by a poet.

Just agreeing with Lorraine. I liked his style - very fluent and the idea of chance and how it works in human affairs is a fundamental and interesting theme.
