Welcome to the Globe Bookgroup blog! Here, members of the group can post messages about past and present books, and catch up with other members. The Globe Bookgroup meets around every 4-5 weeks on a Thursday night in The Globe pub, Baker Street. We get very excited about choosing and voting for our books. We don't do organised discussions or heavy hardbacks.

Claire: what a star

Claire wins a couple of theoretical prizes this month:

The prize for picking a book liked by all those who came to bookgroup last night. (Those who couldn't make it - do let us know if you too liked A Widow for One Year.)

The prize for having an almost unanimous vote for this month's book.

Well done!

So, a Widow for One Year was very popular, we all liked its verbosity (Julian's word, I can't claim I would've used it otherwise) and characters.

Claire's shortlist was:
My Uncle Oswald Roald Dahl
Brand New Friend Mike Gayle
Only Say the Word Niall Williams
What we did on our holiday John Harding

And winner is: What we did on our holiday John Harding

Next bookgroup: Wednesday March 1st.

Now do try and finish the book...especially you Lorraine. I don't know....tut tut...
