Welcome to the Globe Bookgroup blog! Here, members of the group can post messages about past and present books, and catch up with other members. The Globe Bookgroup meets around every 4-5 weeks on a Thursday night in The Globe pub, Baker Street. We get very excited about choosing and voting for our books. We don't do organised discussions or heavy hardbacks.

September Shortlist and Voting

I was feeling rather apocalyptic and futuristic so the shortlist this month was:

1. The Handmaid's Tale Margaret Atwood
2. The Day of the Triffids John Wyndham
3. Brave New World Aldous Huxley
4. The Left Hand of Darkness Ursula K. Le Guin
5. The War of the Worlds H.G. Wells

And the winner is.....The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

Next month's bookgroup will meet on Wed 12th October.

The general consensus about The Sunday Philosophy Club was that it was 'alright', I don't think people were very excited by it. If absent members have any pearls of wisdom, please post them on here. I read Vanishing Acts which was fab - I thoroughly recommend Jodi Piccoult's books, I've read 3 of them this summer, and find them very addictive.

September bookgroup

Hi everyone,

Bookgroup is meeting on Wed 14th Sep at 6.30pm - hope you've had a chance to read The Sunday Philosophy Club or whatever it was called (oops!) and perhaps even Vanishing Acts. If you can't make it to the group, here is your opportunity to say what you thought of the books, so do please comment.

I'll also be publishing the short lists on here every month from now on.
