Welcome to the Globe Bookgroup blog! Here, members of the group can post messages about past and present books, and catch up with other members. The Globe Bookgroup meets around every 4-5 weeks on a Thursday night in The Globe pub, Baker Street. We get very excited about choosing and voting for our books. We don't do organised discussions or heavy hardbacks.

Christmas meal

The Christmas meal 2007 and now come and gone, and contained exciting moments such as 'the picking of the book from the Christmas bag of mystery', and 'the grand voting for the January book'. 5 of us brought in suggestions of books to read, which were:

1. Any Human Heart William Boyd (Stephanie's choice)
2. The Places in Between Rory Stewart (Julian's choice)
3. Starter for Ten David Nicholls (Claire's choice)
4. Attraction James Manlow (Lorraine's choice)
5. The Wave Theory of Angels Alison MacLeod (Ellie's choice)

And the winner is....Attraction by James Manlow, who is apparently a new author and a poet so it's great that we'll be supporting him by buying his book.

Have an fabulous Christmas and do lots of reading. I have been lent 'Summer of my amazing luck' by Miriam Toews, which I shall enjoy devouring - I have thoroughly enjoyed the other two novels she's written.
