Welcome to the Globe Bookgroup blog! Here, members of the group can post messages about past and present books, and catch up with other members. The Globe Bookgroup meets around every 4-5 weeks on a Thursday night in The Globe pub, Baker Street. We get very excited about choosing and voting for our books. We don't do organised discussions or heavy hardbacks.

1056 pages

Not the book we're going to read (a mere 300) - but A Man Without Qualities....yes 1056 pages. Julian, have you forgotten we are the group who failed, by and large, to read Bleak House in an entire summer. It has been given glowing reviews on Amazon, but still, that was a bit of wishful thinking!!

I'm currently reading 'When We Were Orphans' by Kazuo Ishiguro, which is an intriguing read. If you haven't read it already, I can recommend his latest, Never Let Me Go which I'm sure I've raved about already.

Time to go the library...

November book

'Talking it Over' was neither adored not hated. Some of us liked it, some of us didn't so much...did you have any strong feelings either way? Julian is keen to read the sequel...and I am not.

It was Julian who took up the shortlist baton and came up with the following choices:

1. The Man Without Qualities Robert Musil
2. Experience Martin Amis
3. Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall Anna Funder
4. The Map of Love Ahdaf Soueif
5. Millennium People J.G. Ballard

And this month's book is...

Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall Anna Funder

Next month's bookgroup will have the lucky dip bookchoice - please bring copies of a synopsis of the book you'd like us to read, plus a copy of a book you'd like someone to have (wrapped please) - don't go buying a brand new book though.
